Tasks for magazines
Next: Indexing a magazine
If you click on a magazine in a jukebox (in contrast to a virtual magazine), the Resource Manager lists all slots in that magazine and gives an indication of the status of each slot. If the magazine has been indexed already, the Resource Manager knows the label of each disk and lists it accordingly. The list pane (right pane) on the jukebox page looks similar to the one shown in the example in Figure 11:

Figure 11: The list pane shows the disks in the magazine
As you can see in the figure, the Resource Manager lists the following information:
- slot number
- exact type of disk (CD-ROM, DVD, DVD-RAM)
- label
- empty slots
This information is gathered during indexing and stored in a database. If you or the system administrator were to remove or replace a disk in the magazine, this change would not be listed by the Resource Manager right away. It is the indexing that keeps the listing up-to-date. This brings us to the next major topic: indexing.
